Sweatshop Worker from Tijuana to Speak at UH

Timothy O'Brien, UH SAS Community Outreach announces:

On February 18 at 7pm in Cullen Auditorium on the University of Houston campus Students Against Sweatshops presents a film screening of Maquilapolis with special guest, Carmen Duran, principal cast member from Tijuana, Mexico. Carmen works the graveyard shift in one of Tijuana's maquiladoras, the multinationally-owned factories that came to Mexico for its cheap labor. Carmen takes a major television manufacturer to task for violating her labor rights. After the corporation cuts and runs leaving the worker's holding the bag Carmen organizes and fights back.
